The old town of Chania, with its lighthouse and harbour front, is one of the most photographed spots in the Mediterranean. The south coast of the prefecture hides some of the most unspoilt beaches in Greece, reachable through gorges and coastal paths. The area enjoys a long season from April to November, an international airport with direct flights across Europe, and a well-established market for holiday rentals. Chania is widely considered the most beautiful prefecture of Crete, famous for its Venetian harbour town, exotic beaches such as Balos, Elafonissi and Falassarna, and the dramatic White Mountains.
